Cryptids are creatures not recognized by the scientific community or thought extincted, but believed to still exist today. Loch Ness, the ahool, the altamaha-ha and the grootslang are some examples of such beast. Among other reported cryptids are humanoids that resemble humans in anatomy. These creatures have two eyes, opposable thumbs, able to walk upright, and in some cases possessed a human like intelligence. Bigfoot, Mothman, Skunk Ape and the GoatMan are well-known cryptids within this category along with an infamous one called the Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp.
In 1764, a monstrous, wolf-like beast terrorized the people of Gévaudan, slaying dozen of the local inhabitants. Over the years, the creature’s identity remains uncertain with researchers proposing theories ranging from a pack to wolves to a hyena and even a few daring to suggest a werewolf. The following YouTube video, produced by Crypticc, goes into more detail about the Beast of Gevaudan.

Pennsylvania has many reported paranormal phenomena from ghosts to UFO sightings occurring for decades. The state is even home to several famous cryptids such as Bigfoot, Mothman, Goatman along with a few visitation by the New Jersey Devil. One of the lesser known and probably the most pitiful of creatures believe to inhabit the northern-western woods of Pennsylvanian is the Squonk.
